Proven Quality round-up
On the site, our chief writer Gareth McKnight was as prolific as ever, turning out some of the most popular posts this week. A recurring theme for Gareth this week was player injuries and what they mean for the big sides. He reckons that Ramires’ unfortunate injury at Swindon represents a real chance for Brazilian David Luiz to push on and gain a place in the Chelsea midfield, and that Arteta’s return in Arsenal’s win at West Brom will threaten Jack Wilshere’s place in the North London club’s midfield.
I’m not so sure Arteta will be first choice all the time with Flamini performing outstandingly in the defensive role and Ramsey having the season of his life as a box-to-box midfielder, but as an Arsenal fan I’m certainly pleased to see the gunners players return from injury and offer rotation possibilities.
Lastly, Gareth pondered another returning star, David Silva at Manchester City, and whether or not the team will perform better with the diminuitive Spaniard in the play-maker role, or with Samir Nasri, who has been filling in well.
If you’re a fan of Italian football, Charlie Dear’s piece on the team that Rafa Benitez is building at Napoli, and their potential for success this season.
The best from around the web
From the big papers, excerpts from Bergkamp’s autobiography provided great reads, and Stan Kroenke chose a good time (with Arsenal top of the league) to grant interviews to the Telegraph and the Mirror. Kroenke puts his support behind Arsène Wenger and made some interesting points about club financing.
Another interesting interview was with Santi Cazorla, who shed light on his move away from Malaga, and talked about how the La Liga dichtotomy has started to bore players and fans alike in Spain.
Here’s a bit of fun, the ever excellent Old School Panini created a bumper football lookalikes article to celebrate their 1500th post.
We also had a good chuckle when Everton full-back Leighton Baines revealed his performance against West Ham was spurred on by Leon Osman’s decision to drop Baines from his fantasy football team.
Finally, we love ourselves some good tactical writing, and enjoyed this post about Tottenham’s win at Cardiff, and Outside of the Boot’s tactical analysis of Manchester City’s 4-1 win over Manchester United immensely.
Final word
